Former football Man City striker Mikhail Kavelaashvili is set to become president of Georgia after the ruling party nominated him as its candidate.

The 53-year-old former striker joined City from Dinamo Tbilisi in Georgia in the 1995-96 season. And scored three goals in 28 appearances for the club.UFABET

The council is largely control by Kavelashvili’s ruling Georgian Dream party. Meaning he has a near-certain chance of being elected after the December 14 vote.

Georgian Dream retained control of parliament in the South Caucasus nation in an October 26 election. That the opposition alleges was rigged with Moscow’s help. Georgia’s outgoing president. And main pro-Western parties have since boycotted parliamentary sessions and demand a rerun of the ballot.

Georgian Dream has vowed to continue pushing toward EU accession but also wants to “reset” ties with Russia.
